The Role

We are seeking dedicated and reliable Casual Community Meals Delivery Officers to join our Community Meals Team. The team is responsible for delivering hot, nutritious meals to vulnerable residents across the North Somerset area. We are a friendly face and support people being able to remain at home, once they are unable to cook for themselves. A welfare check is completed with each service user, this is a check to ensure our service users are well, hydrated, their home is to the correct temperature, and our staff may be the connection they have for when things are not right.

We offer full training for this role, including driving and new staff are accompanied on their rounds to ensure they are competent in the role.

You will be supported by 2 x Lead Drivers and a Community Meals Team Manager.

Our service operates 7 days per week over 52 weeks with no delivery on Christmas and New Years Day.

Delivery Officers are required to work between 10:30 and 14:00, Monday to Friday, with weekend and Bank Holiday shifts.

All applicants must hold a full UK driving licence (Category B minimum) and be willing to submit this for regular checks. An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver hot, nutritious meals to service users in a timely manner
  • Carry out a basic welfare check at each delivery, ensuring the service user:
    • Feels well
    • Is able to eat their meal
    • Is appropriately hydrated
  • Report any concerns to the Business Support team
  • Work independently while following designated delivery routes
  • Demonstrate a strong team ethic, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive working environment
  • Provide excellent customer care and act with compassion and respect at all times
  • Take pride in contributing to a service that supports vulnerable residents and strengthens the local community
  • Carry out deliveries in a range of weather conditions

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

About You

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the community and who would like to join a close knit team delivering meals to our vulnerable users, and who possess the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • A full UK driving licence (Category B)
  • Experience or an understanding of working with elderly or vulnerable individuals
  • A caring approach, with a commitment to supporting people to maintain their dignity and independence within their own homes
  • The ability to work independently and use your own initiative
  • Good communication skills, with an appropriate level of spoken and written English
  • A basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the community
  • The ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a supportive working environment
  • Polite and courteous with colleagues and the general public.
