Job summary

This role sits at the core of NHB’s investment model. As NHB CIO, the postholder will lead the design and oversight of both NHB’s new £16bn strategic capital allocation as well as its historic programmes. The role holder will ensure financial sustainability, risk-return alignment, and effective portfolio management whilst supporting the NHB’s objective of crowding in a further £53bn of private finance alongside its own.

Job description

Reporting to the NHB CEO and regularly deputising for him, the CIO will lead a newly established function, providing strategic leadership on asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment governance and financial oversight.

The CIO will work closely with senior leaders across Equity, Debt, Guarantees, and regional delivery teams to ensure a coordinated approach to investment activity that maximises financial impact while enabling housing delivery at pace.

The CIO will also oversee the dedicated complex transactions team, working with across all of NHB’s and HE intervention capabilities to oversee the investment coordination of a wider range of HE’s most complex projects. The role will involve providing early strategic input on key transactions, shaping investment proposals and advising on capital efficiency and risk appetite.

Operating nationally but overseeing a team that will also work closely with regional colleagues and partners, the postholder will play a critical role in investment committee governance, ministerial engagement and cross Government working.

As a role model for NHB’s culture and ways of working the postholder will provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team, embedding commercial excellence, strong investment discipline and deep market engagement.

The CIO requires a dynamic leader with a unique blend of strategic vision, operational expertise, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

We are seeking a senior leader with a strong investment background and the ability to operate at the highest strategic levels. Some of the other experience we are looking for:
