The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is the independent economic and health and safety regulator for Britain’s railways and monitor of performance on England’s strategic road network.

Job description
Railway Safety Directorate ensures duty-holders in the railway industry manage health and safety risks effectively and comply with their statutory duties. The Chief Inspector’s Office (CIO) is a new team that’s being created to safeguard delivery of the Railway Safety Directorate’s (RSD’s) work, ensuring clear accountability, strong assurance and proactive risk management. It will also play an important role in supporting continuous improvement within RSD, including through programme management leadership and oversight of change management.
As a central part of the newly established Chief Inspector’s Office (CIO), a team created to safeguard delivery of the Railway Safety Directorate’s (RSD) work by strengthening accountability, assurance and proactive risk management, and driving continuous improvement and change. The postholder will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and effective running of this new function. The role provides high quality executive, administrative and coordination support across the CIO and wider RSD, underpinning leadership activity, core governance processes and directorate wide programme delivery. This includes leading the coordination of the Emergency Contact Officer function, making sure any railway incidents calls are captured, delivering reliable PA support to senior leaders, ensuring well planned and well documented meetings, supporting stakeholder engagement, and contributing to the successful delivery of development programmes and wider project initiatives.
Through this breadth of responsibility, the postholder will be essential to embedding new ways of working and enabling the CIO to operate with confidence, efficiency and impact.

Additional Information
At ORR, our hybrid working means that we currently work from our workplace location a minimum of 40% of our working week, although requirements to attend other offsite locations for official business, also count towards this level of attendance. Working arrangements are subject to continuous review.
