Are you confident, customer-focused and enjoy working outdoors? Do you have the ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with people fairly and professionally?

West Berkshire Council is seeking a Civil Enforcement Officer to join our Parking Services team. Whether you already have experience in parking enforcement or come from a customer service, security, policing, military, emergency services or other public-facing background, we would love to hear from you. We are committed to training the right person and will provide full training and support to help you succeed in the role.

As a Civil Enforcement Officer, you will:

  • Patrol streets and council car parks across West Berkshire, helping to ensure parking regulations are followed.
  • Issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) where parking contraventions occur.
  • Act as a visible and professional ambassador for West Berkshire Council.
  • Provide advice and assistance to residents, businesses and visitors.
  • Deal with challenging situations calmly, professionally and respectfully.
  • Record evidence, prepare accurate notes and maintain detailed records using handheld technology.
  • Monitor council car parks and undertake routine checks of parking equipment and facilities.
  • Support the wider Parking Services team in delivering an excellent service to the public.
  • Attend adjudication hearings or court proceedings where required.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Can remain calm and professional when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Has good attention to detail and can produce accurate records.
  • Is able to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Is comfortable using computers, tablets and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Is reliable, flexible and willing to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required.
  • Holds a UK driving licence.

While experience in parking enforcement or a similar role would be advantageous, it is not essential. We recognise that many of the skills needed to succeed as a Civil Enforcement Officer can be gained in other roles.

If you can demonstrate the right attitude, customer focus and willingness to learn, we will provide the training needed to develop you into a successful Civil Enforcement Officer.
