Clerk to Governing Boards (Casual)
School Governor Services – Education Strategy and Performance
Wakefield Council is seeking to appoint Casual Clerks to Governing Boards to support schools across the Wakefield district and surrounding areas.
This is a casual, flexible role, ideal for individuals with strong organisational and administrative skills who are interested in supporting effective school governance.
About the role
As a Casual Clerk, you will provide professional clerking support to school governing boards and/or committees. This includes:
- Preparing and distributing agendas and meeting paperwork
- Attending governing board and committee meetings (usually evenings)
- Accurately recording, producing and circulating minutes within agreed timescales
- Providing procedural advice and guidance during meetings in line with statutory requirements
- Supporting schools to meet governance, compliance and procedural expectations
- Meetings are typically held in the evening and may take place in person or virtually (Microsoft Teams).
About you
We are looking for individuals who:
- Have strong organisational and administrative skills
- Can produce clear, accurate written records
- Have good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office / Teams
- Are able to work independently and manage their own workload
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality and attention to detail
- Experience of clerking, school governance or local authority work is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

In accordance with the Council Probation Procedure, this post is subject to a 6-month Probationary Period.

Salary range
- £13.90 - £14.59 per hour
