About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Corporate Debt Officer to join our Corporate Debt team. This role is key to ensuring the effective management and recovery of corporate debt, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting our overall financial operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • monitor overdue debts and take appropriate recovery action, including issuing reminders and progressing legal recovery where necessary
  • maintain accurate financial records, ensuring all billing, payments, and refunds are processed correctly and on time
  • prepare and manage debtor accounts, including documentation for legal proceedings and court applications
  • respond to internal and external customer queries professionally and in a timely manner
  • set up and manage payment arrangements, including direct debits and tailored repayment plans
  • support income collection systems to maximise revenue and minimise debt write-offs
  • liaise with internal departments, legal teams and external organisations to support debt recovery processes
  • ensure compliance with statutory regulations, council policies, and audit requirements

Essential skills and experience:

  • strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • good numeracy, literacy and financial reasoning
  • IT proficient in using financial systems
  • previous experience in debt recovery, finance or a related administrative role
  • confidence dealing with customers in sometimes challenging situations

Desirable:

  • experience in invoicing, billing and recovery processes
  • advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • knowledge of debt collection procedures and customer accounts

Qualifications

  • minimum of four GCSEs (or equivalent), including maths and English

This is a career-grade post (D to F), with progression based on competence and business needs

A Baseline Personnel Security Standard check is required as part of this role and that will also entail the successful applicant undertaking a Basic DBS Check.
