Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council have formed an exciting strategic partnership, and the new Corporate Manager – Biodiversity & Climate Change will support to both Councils.

About the role

Brentwood and Rochford Councils are committed to creating a sustainable future for our communities. We have created the new role as Climate & Biodiversity Manager to reflect the importance of this agenda for the Councils and we are looking for a passionate and experienced person to lead our efforts in tackling climate change, supporting nature recovery and BNG and promoting environmental sustainability.

The role will work with a small team across both Councils to lead on the implementation of both Councils desire to be net zero by 2030 and to work with partners and stakeholders to be net zero across both areas by 2040.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the projects and priorities as outlined in the Councils respective Climate/ Environment Strategies
  • Work with internal teams to achieve net zero by 2030 in Council operations and embed consideration of environmental sustainability in all our activities
  • Work with stakeholders including Essex County Council, residents and business to promote sustainable practices.
  • Seek and secure additional funding to support Council objectives
  • Manage the climate change team and participate in decision making at corporate level
