Job summary

The role of ‘Cyber Response Support’ exists to assist in maintaining an effective and resilient cyber incident management capability by supporting the implementation of established response policies, processes, and standards.

The post holder will contribute to the planning, execution, and administration of incident response exercises, helping to strengthen organisational preparedness and ensure lessons are embedded. They will support the analysis and communication of investigation findings and mitigation activity, enabling informed decision‑making and contributing to continuous improvement against emerging threats.

The role assists with conducting post‑incident reviews to capture lessons learned and enhance preventative and monitoring controls. The post holder will also support the development and delivery of the organisation’s vulnerability management capability, contributing to vulnerability triage and providing clear, accurate information to system owners to enable timely remediation.

They will collaborate closely with the SEO Cyber Response Lead and provide support as required, ensuring high‑quality delivery across response and vulnerability management functions

Job description

Responsibilities include:

Implement the Command’s cyber response policies and processes to meet the needs in line with appropriate standards

Support the design and delivery cyber incident response exercises including scoping, design, and governance

Support the Command or relevant sub-Command to improve and maintain a robust response to new threats and attack vectors

Conduct post-incident review, including root cause analysis, to feedback information and so improve

Triage incident database to identify any potential incidents that has a cyber security element

Triage vulnerability alerts and directives, providing advice to system owners to ensure mitigation measures are implemented

Support the Cyber Response Lead with ad hoc tasking as required

Undertake learning and development and upskilling as required.

Experience working in incident management/coordination

CISM/CISSP/SANS 553: Cyber Incident Management

Experience working in, degree, or relevant qualification in the field of Cyber Security

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
