Job summary
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has been set up to provide health security and health protection for the nation by protecting from infectious disease and external hazards. We will act like no other organisation previously to mitigate threats to health before they materialise.
UKHSA will build the nation’s health resilience and security, strengthening our ability to detect and monitor infectious diseases and external threats to health. Using robust evidence and world-leading expertise, we will go deeper to analyse threats to health, and how best to prevent and control them. UKHSA will ensure a system-wide response in partnership with local authorities, NHS, academia, global professional institutes, and industry.
As part of its development and governance, UKHSA is expanding the Cyber Security Division, building on its capability to provide a critical function in the protection of the UKHSA’s digital assets, working closely with wider UKHSA security teams and stakeholders (Government Security Group, NCSC and NPSA) to build a resilient infrastructure, supporting the organisation in reaching its ambition to become a global leader for health security and becomes a critical component of our national security infrastructure.

Job description
We are looking for Cyber Security Associates to join the Cyber Team which is within the Trusted Data & Technology (TDT) Directorate.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to become a central part of the Cyber team as it guides the business to be appropriately cyber-secure, meeting mandatory regulatory and legal requirements in the process. The team helps to ensure UKHSA is trusted to receive and process the data it needs to deliver its mission, and to keeps its people safe. You will work closely with all our Cyber pillars (Governance Risk & Compliance, Security Architecture, Security Operations and our Project Management Office) to gain experience in each area, gaining skills and knowledge in critical cyber areas to support our mission.
As a Cyber Security Associate you will be tasked to perform a diverse range of activities the Cyber Pillars, for example these might include: tracking cyber security risks, sharing best practice for security architecture with new projects, documenting and enhancing our workflows, and triaging vulnerability reports and other threat intelligence.
Detailed Description and Main Responsibilities
- Undertaking concise packages of delivery work.
- Support the Cyber Pillars in ad hoc tasks as required.
- Implementing and maintaining systems to enable effective planning and scheduling for the Cyber workload.
- Helping to track and deliver cyber security services across the team.
- Managing and monitoring compliance of the cyber workload in line with UKHSA guidelines and legislation, including Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Security.
- Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Drafting and supporting sign off risks, statements and assurance pieces.
- Supporting the development of business cases contracts and audits.
- Maintaining the Cyber Risk and issues (RAID) log, working with risk managers to resolve issues and escalating where appropriate.
- Acting as point of contact for project responses to requests for information and signpost accordingly. A good understanding of cyber security and information security management systems and concepts.

Location
This role is being offered as hybrid working based at any of our Core HQs. We offer great flexible working opportunities at UKHSA and operate using a hybrid working model where business needs allow. This provides us with greater flexibility about how and where we work, to get the best from our workforce. As a hybrid worker, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, (averaged over a month) working at one of UKHSA's core HQs (Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, and London). Our core HQ offices are modern and newly refurbished with excellent city centre transport links and benefit from co-location with other government departments such as the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).
Security Clearance Level Requirement
Successful candidates must pass a basic disclosure and barring security check before they can be appointed.

Salary Information
If you are successful at interview, and are moving from another government department, NHS, or Local Authority, the relevant starting salary principles for level transfers or promotions will apply. Otherwise, roles are offered at the pay scale minimum for the grade, but in exceptional circumstances there may be flexibility if you are able to demonstrate you are already in receipt of an existing, higher salary. Pay increases are through the relevant annual pay award for the role and terms.

• £35,587- £43,244 (Outer London)

The new facilities will start becoming operational in the mid-2030s, with full
completion by 2038. Staff will move in phases as facilities become available.
