We have an exciting opportunity available for a motivated and experienced Data and GIS Team Manager, to join us as a key member of the Data team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, 12-Month Fixed Term Contract.

You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering the Council’s Data Strategy and GIS programme, ensuring continuous improvement and efficiency. You’ll work in a collaborative, innovative environment with opportunities to shape the future of digital and data services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a talented team of data analysts, engineers, and GIS specialists.
  • Deliver data and business intelligence projects as part of our Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) programme.
  • Collaborate across council teams to shape data tools and ensure user needs are at the heart of our work.
  • Promote data-driven practices and support the adoption of open data principles.
  • Develop and deliver efficient, user-focused data and GIS services.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, partners, and suppliers.
  • Support the development and coordination of our data and GIS service roadmap.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in service delivery.
  • Act as a role model, coaching and supporting colleagues to foster a positive team culture

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree-level education (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools and methods (SQL Server, Power BI, Excel).
  • Experience managing complex data and GIS projects and collaborating with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience in implementing, developing, and maintaining data and GIS solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of GDPR and data protection requirements.
  • Effective project management skills and ability to balance conflicting priorities.
  • Experience in budget management and supplier relationships.
