Data Architect – Shape Peabody’s Enterprise Data Foundations

Are you passionate about designing robust, trusted data foundations that enable better decision‑making and innovation? As a Data Architect at Peabody, you’ll lead the definition and evolution of our enterprise data architecture, ensuring it supports high‑quality data products, integration and ethical data use across the organisation.

This is a strategic, hands‑on role where your architectural expertise will influence how data is structured, governed and reused across platforms. You’ll work closely with Data Engineers, Product Teams, Data Governance and Solutions Architects to ensure consistency across application, integration and data layers, while enabling scalable analytics and advanced use cases.

What you’ll do

  • Define and maintain enterprise data architecture across analytical and operational use cases
  • Design and govern conceptual, logical and physical data models aligned to business needs
  • Set and promote data modelling standards (e.g. Dimensional, 3NF, Data Vault) across domains
  • Guide integration of internal and third‑party data into the Azure data platform using the Medallion architecture
  • Provide architectural assurance for data products, analytics and AI/ML initiatives
  • Co‑own metadata strategy, including lineage, cataloguing and business glossary alignment
  • Support data ownership and governance models to improve quality, compliance and trust
  • Collaborate with Solutions Architecture and Platform Engineering on roadmap and reuse decisions
  • Evaluate emerging tools and architectural patterns to keep the platform modern and cost‑effective
  • Ensure architecture enables ethical, secure and high‑quality use of data

What you’ll need

  • Strong experience as a Data Architect or Senior Data Engineer with architectural responsibility
  • Deep expertise in enterprise data architecture, modelling and metadata strategies
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure
  • Hands‑on knowledge of Databricks, Synapse, Data Factory, Azure SQL and Purview
  • Strong understanding of data governance, quality, privacy and security principles
  • Experience across both analytical and operational data use cases
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex data concepts clearly
  • Good understanding of DevOps, CI/CD and engineering quality practices
  • Knowledge of data mesh and domain‑based architecture approaches
  • Familiarity with TOGAF or similar architectural frameworks

Preferred (but not essential)

  • Experience supporting AI/ML pipelines or ethical data innovation
  • Knowledge of geospatial data and geospatially enabled solutions
  • Experience working in federated or hub‑and‑spoke data platform models
  • Relevant certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect

Who you are

You will be:

  • Strategic yet pragmatic in how you design and influence architecture
  • Collaborative and comfortable working across technical and non‑technical teams
  • Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on quality, reuse and sustainability
  • Curious about emerging patterns, tools and best practice
  • Passionate about trusted, ethical and well‑governed data
