Traditionally a role fulfilled by the Head of Legal Services, the council has created this post to acknowledge both the importance of the work, and to deal with the challenges of Local Government Reorganisation. The role is perfect for a serving Deputy Data Protection Officer or an existing Data Protection Officer seeking a new challenge
Fulfilling a statutory role, the DPO is the lead officer with oversight of all Council wide personal data processing activities and the candidate must be willing to be the designated officer. The candidate will lead the organisation in data protection best practice and provide specialist advice, support and training to all services across the organisation.
The ideal candidate:
- A holder of relevant qualifications (and preferably a law degree);
- An expert in Data Protection and FOIA, able to line manage support staff, and lead the organisation in data protection best practice;
- Ability to provide specialist advice, support and training to staff and elected members across the organisation as to data best practices and FIOA;
- Responsible officer for monitoring and improving the organisation’s compliance with legislation;
- Swiftly deal with data breaches/incidents and developing lessons learned papers to mitigate future breaches;
- To assist the organisation to be prepared for Local Government Reorganisation, and manage the data migration at the appropriate time.

Salary range
