In Defence Intelligence (DI) our people solve problems, create understanding and give perspective to the diverse and complex Defence threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world. This role is advertised at 37 hours per week (unless part time).

Job description

DCI’s mission is to UNDERSTAND and CONTEST espionage and hostile intelligence threats, in partnership with national and allied intelligence and security organisations. DCI delivers prioritised, intelligence-led, deliberate operations, analysis, and national security investigations working with UKIC, Police, and allies. DCI has an expanding portfolio within high-profile mission teams, focused entirely on understanding and mitigating security threats across Defence.

  • Deliver and communicate high quality, impactful counter intelligence outputs. This should be underpinned by analysis (verbal and written) that adheres to the Professional Head of Intelligence Assessment’s Analytic Standards and DI guidance. When required, plan and conduct Defence investigations and operations to counter the threat from hostile espionage and intelligence threats, including insider threats, within resource and risk parameters. This ranges from managerial oversight, planning and co-ordination to on the ground investigative and operational activity.
  • Build Subject Matter Expertise and maintain a high level of situational awareness, using all resources available to you. Act as an expert across your community.
  • Ensure intelligence gaps are identified; actively seek to fill gaps through conducting research and tasking collection following the relevant guidance, processes and legislation. Engage with efforts to innovate data exploitation.
  • Apply a range of critical and creative approaches and techniques to process information and answer customer intelligence requirements. Maintain and develop analytic skills.
  • Promote good tradecraft and give and accept constructive challenge.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with key customers and ensure intelligence output is aligned to their requirements, decision-making processes and timelines.
  • Participate fully in relevant national and international intelligence community collaboration processes and activities.
