Job summary

Defence Intelligence (DI) is a key part of the MOD, providing strategic intelligence support across the department and working closely with the wider MOD Intelligence Community. PMG sits within DI and focuses on embedding data‑centred services across DI and the MOD. This helps teams make better use of data and information, support informed decision‑making, and enable more joined‑up intelligence working across different domains.

PMG works closely with Partners Across Government (PAG) to make sure information is handled and shared safely. Maintaining strong information assurance is central to protecting intelligence and making sure it is available to the right people when they need it.

In Defence Intelligence, our people work together to tackle complex problems, build understanding, and provide insight into a wide range of defence‑related threats and challenges in a fast‑changing world. Our civilian and military staff support decision‑making across Defence, manage complex programmes, and help develop and use new technologies.

We value different perspectives and believe that individual experiences and ways of thinking strengthen our work. DI actively encourages diversity at all levels and recognises that people do their best work in inclusive and supportive environments. As an equal opportunity’s employer, we recruit, develop and promote based on merit, and we aim to create a workplace where everyone feels respected. We also support flexible working options, including flexitime, job sharing and compressed hours.

All jobs’ adverts in DI are subject to fair and open competition.

The key performance indicator is to effectively oversee the life-cycle permissions management for individual access to selected Sensitive IT Systems, by reviewing user requirements, post changes and the principle of ‘Need to Know’. Vision

PMG supports business units across Defence, including those working in sensitive areas, by helping them develop better ways to work together. This is focused on making collaboration easier and more effective, rather than adding extra layers of process.

Regular contact with Release Authorities and Business Unit Controllers helps make sure access is managed properly and that information is handled in line with agreed expectations.

You will:

Develop a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the PMG team Business:

  • Understand how the DI Information Handling Model (IHM) operates, used to influence customers knowledge on how to manage information.

  • Perform annual internal audit reviews for MOD accesses to sensitive compartments.
  • Respond to day-to-day access to systems and sensitive information requests as directed by TL.
  • Review permission management accesses with PAG to sensitive information.
  • Promote wellbeing for yourself and others. Conduct should conform to the civil service code, incorporate DI values, and practice diversity and inclusion.

As a result of the changes to the UK immigration rules which came in to effect on 1 January 2021, the Ministry of Defence will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa under the points-based system, where a role has been deemed to be business critical. This role does not meet that category and we will not sponsor a visa. It is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points-based system.

Should you apply for this role and be found to require sponsorship, your application will be rejected and any provisional offer of employment withdrawn.

The Ministry of Defence requires all candidates who are successful at interview to declare any outside interests. These declarations will be discussed with successful candidates following the interview process and before a formal offer of employment is made, as some outside interests may not be compatible with MOD civilian roles. This will not, in the majority of cases, prevent employment in MOD, but it is a measure that must be taken to ensure that appropriate mitigations can be put in place to manage any potential, perceived or actual conflicts of interest from the first day of employment.

The Ministry of Defence adopts a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviours, which includes bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, and victimisation. You will not be eligible and will not be considered for this post if you have been dismissed from a role for such unacceptable behaviours within the last five years. This will also apply if you resign or otherwise leave a role but, because of an adverse decision, would have been dismissed for gross misconduct had you continued in that employment. Pre-employment checks will be carried out.
