Job summary
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is pleased to announce an opportunity to apply for the role of Deputy Director of Operational Delivery (DDOD).
As a Deputy Director of Operational Delivery, you lead the delivery of CPS operational functions in-line with the business objectives, supporting the development and delivery of CPS strategic priorities. You are responsible for the embedding and evaluation of operational change to ensure the right benefits are achieved for the business. You work in collaboration with Headquarter (HQ) Directors and other key senior managers to ensure continuous improvement of performance and delivery of a first-class service.
You provide assurance on performance to the Director General Legal Delivery (DGLD), working closely with the legal and operational leadership team, including the Directors of Legal Services and the Director of Policy, on operational performance, identifying and supporting areas deemed at risk. You undertake the day-to-day Head of Profession role for the Operational Delivery Profession, developing and promoting business excellence.
The Crown Prosecution Service operates across England and Wales, and this role can be based in any CPS office within these locations. Please note that regular travel will be required as part of the role, and it is subject to the CPS hybrid working policy.
As part of this role, you are expected to undertake direct line management responsibilities.

Job description
Your roles and responsibilities:
- You provide visible and strong leadership in line to your teams (Criminal Justice Operations, Operations, and Continuous Improvement) with CPS and Civil Service values, engaging, developing and motivating a diverse workforce at all levels to perform to the best of their ability.
- You lead the implementation of HMCPSI and Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) recommendations relating to operational matters, ensuring efficiencies and business improvements are realised.
- You identify risks, trends, potential issues and good practice in operational performance, working collaboratively across the department to determine the best options.
- You create and maintain strong links with operational senior leaders, including Directors of Legal Services (supporting casework quality), Chief Crown Prosecutors (CCPs) and Heads of Area Operations, to share knowledge and deliver operational performance.
- You work closely and proactively with key senior operational managers to create a culture of continuous improvement that challenges existing practices, encourages innovation and measured risk-taking, and delivers improvements to processes and services, including through digital technologies.
- You ensure that teams and operational leaders across Areas and Casework Divisions have the appropriate tools, resources and support required to deliver.

Person specification
You must clearly demonstrate evidence of the following essential criteria, which are assessed throughout the selection process, including at the shortlisting and interview stages.
Essential criteria:
- Extensive experience in the Operational Delivery profession.
- Track record of, or aptitude for, a senior leadership role in a large and complex organisation, with the ability to manage complexity, show imagination, and inspire staff through periods of uncertainty with honesty and empathy.
- Highly skilled in stakeholder management, both internal and external, with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and influencing abilities.
- Resilient and performance-focused, able to work under pressure to improve performance management, drive quality standards, and promote the sharing of best practice across the organisation (delivering at pace).
- Change-oriented, with a strong understanding of change models and a proven ability to lead and implement organisational transformation.

Assessments

Interview
If you are shortlisted, you attend a panel interview following the individual leadership assessment, and staff engagement exercise. Checks
If you are successful at interview, you undergo pre-employment screening, including a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD).
