
Digital Content Designer
6 months fixed term contract
Reading Borough Council is looking for a talented Digital Content Designer to join our Digital, Technology and Change team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how residents, businesses and colleagues interact with our digital services, ensuring information is easy to find, understand and use.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in improving the user experience across both our public website and internal intranet, helping deliver digital services that meet the needs of our diverse communities

About the role
As a Digital Content Designer, you will help transform complex processes and information into clear, accessible and user-focused content that supports residents and colleagues to achieve their goals online.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, designing and creating high-quality digital content across council websites and online services.
- Working with user research and data to understand audience needs and improve customer journeys.
- Producing content that is accessible, engaging and compliant with digital accessibility standards.
- Reviewing and improving existing content through audits and content lifecycle management
- Supporting colleagues across the Council to create and maintain effective digital content.
- Contributing to the development of content design standards, approaches and digital best practice.
- Using analytics, research and user feedback to continuously improve online services.
- Supporting the delivery of projects within the Council's Digital Strategy.
About you
We're looking for a creative and analytical professional who is passionate about user-centred design and digital communication.
You will have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in digital communications or a related discipline.
- Experience creating, editing and publishing digital content.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to explain complex information in plain English.
- Experience working with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
- Knowledge of accessibility requirements and inclusive content design principles.
- Experience using user research, analytics and insight to improve content.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Experience using tools such as content management systems, Google Analytics, HTML, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat would be advantageous.
Graduates with little or no experience but a willingness to learn can also apply.
