About Us

North Somerset Council is committed to providing high-quality services to our community. We are committed to creating a fair, green, and more inclusive environment for all our residents. Join us and contribute to making a positive impact on our community.

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and highly organised PA to join our Senior Leadership Support team.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive support to the Director of Children’s Services and other members of the senior leadership team. You will be confident working with a wide range of people and issues, using your initiative and judgement to deliver exceptional support. This is a busy, varied, and rewarding position, perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in enabling others to succeed. As part of this role, you will be exposed to sensitive or emotive information, requiring resilience, discretion, and a consistently professional approach.

You will already have experience working at a senior secretarial or executive assistant level and will bring excellent interpersonal, administrative, and organisational skills.

We are looking for a results‑focused individual who can multi‑task, adapt quickly, and work flexibly in a high‑pressure environment, while continually seeking opportunities to improve and modernise the way the Director is supported through smarter, more efficient working practices.

Key tasks will include:

  • Delivering confidential, comprehensive, and proactive PA support to the Directors, using a high degree of initiative and interpersonal skill.
  • Managing and prioritising all incoming and outgoing correspondence and emails, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for calls and visitors, ensuring all enquiries are handled professionally and appropriately.
  • Planning, arranging, and organising meetings, seminars, conferences, travel, and accommodation.
  • Preparing papers, presentations, and agendas for meetings, and following up on agreed actions.
  • Providing extensive diary management, ensuring organisational priorities are understood and reflected in scheduling.
  • Minute taking.
  • Developing a strong understanding of the operational and political environment, as well as the Director’s priorities and key relationships.
  • Providing information to Councillors, stakeholders, and colleagues to support understanding of services and priorities.
  • Operating with the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Undertaking research and providing project support as required.
  • Using Microsoft Office applications confidently and effectively and demonstrating strong capability in the use of AI and digital tools to enhance productivity and streamline administrative processes.
  • Providing line management support to two Personal Assistants who are part of the Senior Leadership Support Teams, including regular supervision, objective setting, and leading on annual appraisals.

We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Local Government Pension.
  • Opportunities for professional development.
  • Inclusive Staff groups including Carers, Disabled, LGBTQ+, REACH (Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Heritage), and Young Staff Forums.
  • Opportunity to purchase up to an additional 10 days annual leave each year.
  • Dedicated in house Wellbeing Team.
  • Salary sacrifice Cycle to Work and Electric Vehicle schemes.

Further details of our excellent rewards package can be found in our Benefits booklet.
