Job summary

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigates and prosecutes serious and complex financial crime, delivering justice for victims and enhancing the reputation of the UK as a safe place to do business. We also pursue criminals for recovery of unlawful financial gains. The SFO is a non-ministerial government department, which is accountable to the Attorney General and employs approximately 600 civil servants. We tackle top-tier fraud, bribery and corruption – crimes that are often high-profile and cover many international jurisdictions - combining the skills of lawyers, investigators, forensic accountants, specialist counsel and other experts. These teams work collaboratively with one another and with law enforcement agencies throughout the world.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Serious Fraud Office as a Divisional Business Manager (DBM). As a DBM, you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Division and Senior Managers to aid the smooth running of the division. Successful candidates will be resourceful, proactive and have excellent attention to detail. You must be a clear and confident communicator in writing, in person and over the phone. You must also be able to exercise discretion due to the sensitive nature of the issues you will frequently have sight of.

There are two positions available assisting two operational divisions.

Job description

As a Divisional Business Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing financial processes, including raising purchase orders, advising colleagues on the purchase-to-pay process, as well as supporting budgeting and forecasting.
  • To maintain and update the divisional records in accordance with office procedures, including but not limited to the organogram, staffing lists, distribution lists, attendance, Simply Thanks nominations and bonuses, maintaining the Business Continuity Plan and Information Asset Register, whilst looking to develop existing processes and make improvements where possible.
  • Coordinating the Division’s responses to requests for information from internal and external divisions and departments.
  • Acting as the Divisional representative and first point of contact for staff – including permanent, fixed term, agency, Counsel and external visitors. Overseeing the smooth transition of joiners, leavers and movers.
  • Coordinating the Division’s recruitment activity, liaising closely with HR to plan campaigns and working collaboratively with other Business Managers to share resources.
  • To assist the Head of Division in managing the division’s finances including the divisional budget and bonus allocations.
  • Support of ad-hoc projects and corporate commitments in support of the SFO’s mission delivered through the Strategy and Business Plan.

You will first need to successfully complete the Civil Service Numerical test. Following this,

As part of the application process you will be required to provide:

  • A personal statement of no more than 500 words that explains how your skills and experience meet each of the essential experience criteria as listed in the job pack.
  • A supporting CV outlining your job history.

As part of the sift stage, a telephone screen will be conducted for candidates who pass the initial sift. This will take place on either the 22nd or 23rd June and this is an opportunity to provide further information on your skills and experience. Successful candidates at this stage will progress to the interview stage.

It will not be possible to provide feedback to applicants who are unsuccessful at the application stage.

Interview stage

Interviews are expected to take place from w/c 6th July in person at the SFO offices.
