  • About The Role

  • As part of our drive to improve services for vulnerable children and young people within the borough, Bexley has a multidisciplinary Early Intervention and Specialist Advice Service (EISAS), which works closely with schools identifying and supporting children with SEN or AEN, as well as supporting and training school SENCOS and other staff. The Early Intervention team is part of EISAS and includes professionals from a variety of disciplines in education including Educational Psychologists, Social Emotional and Mental Health Advisory Teachers, Early Intervention Team Social Workers, SEN Strategic Support Partners and AEN/SEN Support Partners. Staff work closely with schools but also undertake relevant work outside of school settings.

The focus of the teams is on early intervention to support SEND. Seeking to provide this support to education settings, children, young people and their families, where they require additional help to achieve successful educational and social outcomes. Providing support at an early stage will enable needs to be addressed and ensure that the numbers needing higher level services will reduce over time.

Following the introduction of the Education and SEND reforms we will be increasing capacity within this management team to ensure effective implementation. For this reason, we are seeking two candidates to join an already established and successful team to work collaboratively on this journey.

You will need to be a qualified teacher or hold a qualification to degree level in an area related to children. You will have significant experience either in teaching or working with children and a thorough understanding of schools and education - particularly in the field of SEN. Senior EP or Assistant Head teacher experience is desirable. You will also need to be highly organised. Ideally you would hold a postgraduate qualification in a related field or a management qualification.

This role is for a Fixed Term of 2 years.

    The Role:

    • Management of two of the professional teams within the service that support schools in Bexley. This will include organising team meetings, day to day management of staff in the team as well as performance management.
    • Organise and attend the termly planning meetings the team has with schools: to ensure work is allocated appropriately and that minutes are taken and distributed.
    • To act in an advisory capacity to schools.
    • To liaise closely with other team members to coherently plan interventions and prevent the need for higher threshold services arising in terms of learning and inclusion.
    • To support the implementation of the Education and SEND reforms.
    • To support the Head of Early Intervention and Specialist Advice Service in other tasks such as coordinating SLAs with schools, data collection and analysis and other organisational tasks.

If you have the relevant skills and experience to join our service and are passionate about working in partnership with schools, to enable children with SEN to achieve better outcomes, please submit an application.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact either Fiona Clark (Head of Early Intervention and Specialist Advice Service) on 0203 045 3229, Laura Bakker (EIT Manager) on 0203 045 5020 or Cathy Palmer (EIT Manager) on 0203 045 5022
