Ecologist Lead

Job summary

The Lead Ecologist will provide expert ecological advice and leadership to deliver high quality conservation outcomes, biodiversity net gain projects, and effective volunteer engagement.

You will be involved in developing and implementing ecological strategies, conducting field surveys, managing projects, and building strong stakeholder relationships.

Through your commitment to ecological conservation and biodiversity, you will help maintain and enhance the SSSI, SPA, and SAC designations on site. All work must comply with legislation and Dstl policy while balancing the requirements of an active MOD Range and wider site construction.

Job description

You will lead on Ecological Survey and Assessment including habitat surveys, protected species surveys and botanical assessments and produce subject specific reports as required to support ecological data to inform decision making.

You will be seen as the SME on ecological legislation and best practice standards.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who has experience in managing medium to large-scale ecological projects along with experience in delivering conversation and ecology programmes through the use of volunteers.

You will also have a strong understanding of the legislation relation to Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Protection Ares (SPA) and Special Area of Conversation (SAC).

Degree in Ecology, Conservation Biology or related discipline or equivalent experience.
