Job description
This is an opportunity for a motivated individual to develop into a high performing eDiscovery professional and pursue a career in eDiscovery. In the eDiscovery team, we use our technical expertise to investigate, collate, process, analyse and produce digital material to support the critical cases undertaken by the CMA. We are part of a wider Data, Technology and Insights directorate which includes data scientists and data engineers. Through combined project teams, we provide a cutting-edge eDiscovery capability for the CMA that combines both commercial and in house technologies.
As an eDiscovery Officer, you will be part of a technical team who works closely with our clients on all aspects of data processing, data manipulation and document review. You will undertake challenging eDiscovery projects with complex data and workflows and will contribute to optimising processes.
Person specification
It is essential that you can provide evidence and examples for each of the following selection criteria in your application. For tips on how to make the most your application, please have a look at our guidance document.
Essential:
- A degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., digital forensics, computer science, information systems) or equivalent experience gained through eDiscovery operations and/or legal technology work. (Lead Criteria)
- Strong all-round hands‑on experience with the Relativity eDiscovery platform, including load file ingestion, metadata mapping, workspace configuration, dtSearch index management, production and troubleshooting ingestion or mapping issues. (Lead Criteria)
- Understanding of common chat, mobile and short‑message data formats (e.g., Slack, WhatsApp and mobile/forensic tool exports) and the ability to prepare, structure and present these messages/exports clearly and accurately for review in Relativity.
- Practical experience processing data using Nuix Workstation to prepare Relativity‑ready datasets.
- Ability to perform detailed quality assurance, including checks on metadata, family relationships, extracted text, images and field alignment, ensuring data is defensible before release to legal teams.
- Ability to manage own workload, prioritise conflicting deadlines and maintain high attention to detail, using initiative to resolve issues and delivering accurate, high‑quality results under pressure.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts, highlight issues promptly, support Relativity users, and work effectively with legal teams, project managers and wider business colleagues.

- As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV, personal statement and an online application form. Further details about application requirements are listed on the application form.
- The selection process will comprise of the sift (CV & application review), presentation and an interview. Arrangements for the presentation and interview will be enclosed in the invitation.
- Please note that it is essential that your personal statement is aligned to provide evidence that you have the knowledge and experience for each of the essential criteria (as included on the role profile attached and listed above under 'Person Specification') in your application. Your personal statement should be no more than 1250 words.
- If you meet the qualification criteria you will then be sifted on the first two criteria points (Lead Criteria). If your application progresses to a full sift, all elements of the essential criteria listed under Person Specification will then be considered.
- We may raise the score required at sift stage to progress to interview if we receive a high number of applications and take through the highest performing candidates to the interview stage.
- Successful candidates at sift will be invited to an interview which will be conducted either in person or via Teams.
Interview stage
- At the CMA we apply a blended interview technique, allowing us to find out more about you and we use the Success Profiles framework assessing the Behaviours, Experience (essential criteria) and Technical skills listed in the advert and attached role profile.
- The first part of the interview will comprise of a presentation based on the Technical elements/Experience outlined in the role profile (amend as appropriate), details of which you will sent with your interview invitation.
- The second part of the interview will be a 45 minute -one hour panel interview where you will be asked questions based on the Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills outlined in the role profile.
- A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made for the same or similar roles.
