About The Role

The Employee Experience Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture. Working as part of the wider People and Places Directorate this role manages and drives performance initiatives with a direct focus on people, culture, wellbeing, ED&I and leadership. Additionally, this position is pivotal in championing the employee voice and experience, ensuring that employee feedback and perspectives are actively sought, listened to and embedded into organisational decision-making.

About the team
The Culture and Wellbeing function plays a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace at Companies House. The team leads and supports activity across employee engagement, employee experience, wellbeing, equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I), helping to ensure colleagues feel connected, supported and able to thrive. Current priorities include the continued embedding of organisational values and behaviours, strengthening leadership and management capability through the development and delivery of our manager development programme and supporting resources, and enhancing how employee feedback informs decision-making. The team works in partnership with leaders, managers, people networks and employees to deliver initiatives that improve workplace culture, wellbeing and performance, creating an environment where people can flourish and contribute to the successful delivery of Companies House's strategic objectives.

Job description

As an Employee Experience Lead, main duties consist of but are not limited to:
  • In partnership with HR Business Partners, provide guidance and support to colleagues, building confidence and capability across teams, promoting efficient and consistent HR practices throughout the organisation.
  • Make decisions and select opportunities that have the biggest impact and align to our strategy.
  • Take full ownership of the annual People Survey and all related activities, from preparation for launch to collaboration of analysis and subsequent action planning, engagement, and communication.
  • Work with Directorate Wide Engagement Groups to implement initiatives/ changes to improve working environments.
  • Lead a comprehensive review and strategic redesign of the current performance management policy, internal procedures, and overall cultural approach to performance.
  • Including ongoing metrics, guidance, and good practice resources to managers and employees.
  • Support the delivery of Manager Development Programmes.
  • Lead and facilitate the monthly People Manager Forums for managers throughout CH.
  • These forums will be closely aligned with the objectives of consolidating skills developed through the manager development programmes.
  • Play an agile role in supporting initiatives across ED&I, wellbeing, culture, and employee experience workstreams.
  • Actively collaborate with the Culture Change Community and Directorate Engagement Groups to provide strategic guidance and flexible support, adapting to evolving organisational needs.
  • Directly support the ED&I lead by delivering timely operational insight and robust data to embed inclusive practices.
  • Champion and sustain accreditation activities such as Investors in People, Disability Confident Leader, Race at Work Charter, and Employers for Carers ensuring these achievements directly enhance a positive organisational culture and employee experience.

Where will you be working?

You will be based at our Cardiff office and will be expected to attend on a regular basis. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work which provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities. Your manager will agree regular patterns of attendance with you, however you may be required to make yourself available to attend the office more frequently when required to meet business needs.

Person specification

What we’re looking for
  • Experience in leadership or management positions, demonstrating the ability to drive cultural change and improve employee satisfaction.
  • Experience in designing and implementing engagement initiatives.
  • Background in human resources, organisational development, or people management related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey engagement strategies and facilitate dialogue between staff and leadership.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and oversee multiple initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Ability to use their own initiative and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Skilled in interpreting employee feedback, engagement survey results, and other data to identify trends and inform strategy.
  • Capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels, advocating for employee needs, and negotiating resources or support for engagement programmes.
  • Works effectively with colleagues across organisation, encouraging participation and ownership of engagement activities.
  • Understand the drivers of engagement, wellbeing, and inclusion, and how these factors contribute to a positive workplace culture.
  • Knowledge of best practices in employee experience.
  • Have or is willing to work towards CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management.

For this opportunity, we can consider full-time hours, part-time hours, or compressed hours worked across four days, depending on workload and business needs (minimum 30 hours per week).

Reserve list
This recruitment campaign will keep a reserve list for 12 months. If you meet the requirements for this role but aren't offered after passing the interview, you'll be placed on the reserve list.
