    Employee Relations Investigator

    Salary £41,349

    Hemel Hempstead

Fixed Term Contract until March 2027

Make a real difference where it matters most

We are looking for an experienced Employee Relations professional to join us in a role where your expertise will directly support colleagues delivering care and supported housing services to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

This is not a generalist ER role. You will be a trusted specialist, leading complex and sensitive casework in a fast-paced, highly people-focused environment where empathy, sound judgement, and credibility truly matter.

If you have worked in care, supported housing, social care, or a similarly regulated frontline service, you will understand the unique challenges this brings and how vital strong, fair, and compassionate ER practice is.

    About the role

As our Employee Relations Investigator, you will lead expert investigations across the Care & Supported Housing directorate, supporting a culture of learning, fairness, and safety. Your role will include:

    • End-to-end investigation delivery, from shaping clear terms of reference through to evidence gathering, interviews, and robust written reports
    • Managing complex, sensitive, and emotive cases using sound judgement and best-practice investigation methodologies
    • Determining whether there is a case to answer and presenting evidence at disciplinary hearings, appeals, or legal proceedings where required
    • Conducting hearings and appeals across Care & Supported Housing services
    • Supporting managers operating in regulated frontline environments where risk, compliance, and wellbeing intersect.

You will manage investigations with a high degree of autonomy, ensuring outcomes are fair, timely, and well-reasoned, while maintaining accurate records and high professional standards.

Alongside delivery, you will play a key role in raising investigation capability across the directorate, contributing to guidance, templates and tools, sharing lessons learned, supporting training delivery, and providing insight into themes and trends that inform service improvement.

    What we are looking for

We are specifically interested in candidates who bring a depth of ER experience, within either:

    • Care services
    • Supported housing / housing associations
    • Health or social care
    • Or another highly regulated, customer-facing environment

    You will bring:

    • Significant experience managing complex ER casework end-to-end
    • Strong investigation, interviewing, and report-writing skills
    • A pragmatic, fair, and people-centred approach
    • Confidence advising managers on risk, best practice, and outcomes
    • Sound knowledge of UK employment law
    • CIPD qualification (or equivalent experience)

    Why join us?

    We offer:

    • Professional development and sector-relevant training opportunities
    • 33 days’ annual leave including Bank Holidays (pro-rata)
    • Competitive salary of £41,349 for a 35-hour week
    • Monthly attendance bonus
    • Hybrid working (2 days in the office)
    • Workplace pension & life assurance (3× salary)
    • Retail, gym, restaurant and cinema discounts
    • Employee wellbeing services
    • Free on-site gym access

We will be shortlisting and interviewing on an ongoing basis and may close the vacancy early.

We are proud to be an Equal Opportunities and Disability Confident Employer.

    Salary range

    • £41,349 per year
