We have an excellent opportunity available for an Enforcement Officer to join our Residential and Environmental Protection team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full time, permanent basis.
As an Enforcement Officer, you will play a pivotal role in environmental protection and will be responsible for statutory duties related to nuisance, contaminated land, pollution control, private water supplies, and planning consultations. You will be responsible for your own case load, dealing with complaints, inspections and enforcement.
We would like to hear from both experienced Environmental Health Officers/Environmental protection professional as well as those with relevant qualifications, seeking to gain experience.

Hybrid working – Within this role you can work both from home or the office, as well as visits. There will be substantial site-based work, and you will need to be contributing to duty rota, therefore you will ideally be locally based, or have the ability to be within 30mins of the Borough on a day to day basis.

Key responsibilities:
- Enforcing Environmental Health legislation, including statutory compliance inspections.
- Carrying out compliance inspections and reactive and complaint investigations.
- Gathering evidence, preparing formal inspection reports, statutory notices, schedules and specifications.
- Preparing prosecution reports and taking legal proceedings.
- At Senior level, responsibility for an Environmental Health Specialism.
- To engage with a range of stakeholders and external agencies.
Candidate requirements:
- Ability to plan, prioritise and manage work. At Senior level to have responsibility for coordinating inspection programmes, reactive service requests and allocation of such.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a range of audiences.
- Negotiate, persuade, and influence others to change behaviours, to achieve desired outcomes.
- Competently use computerised information systems.
- Possession of or working towards an appropriate Environmental Health qualification.
- Driving license and use of own car
