
Engineer - Highway Adoptions
The Medway Council Highway Adoption Team are responsible for the adoption of new roads and works to existing highways which provide access or improvements to the frontage of new developments.
The role advertised is a permanent position for a suitably qualified and experienced highway/civil engineer who will lead and coordinate the Council’s Highway Adoption workstreams, ensuring the efficient adoption of new highways and integration into the public network.
The successful candidate will apply technical expertise to assess designs, secure legal agreements, manage financial risks, and monitor construction compliance to deliver safe, durable infrastructure. The role also involves providing leadership and support to staff, fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and maintaining service excellence to uphold statutory requirements and Council objectives.
This role involves site working, attending meetings on site and work from the office as required by current workloads. A minimum of 3 days per week in the office (Pender House – ME2 4EW) is required and the remainder can be either in the office or remote. There may be occasions where attendance at the office 4 or 5 days a week is required, and this will be at the discretion of the line manager.
It is essential that the successful applicant holds a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle which can be used for work purposes.

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. The salary you will be offered will be at level A. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.

Highways seeking a Engineer to join the team at level A. This is the entry point of the role, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, experience and skills to get you started, but you will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. All elements of level A listed within the person specification are essential. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
