We are seeking an Enviro Crime Officer within the Environmental Protection team of Hertsmere’s Environmental Health Department. This small, friendly and supportive team offers a wide range of work experience and assistance in developing competencies within the role and the wider field of environmental protection.
The post-holder will work alongside the Senior Enviro Crime Officer and conduct both pro-active vehicle and foot patrols as well as reactive investigations into complaints such as littering, fly tipping, accumulations and other enviro crime that affect the health and wellbeing of those in the Borough.
The officer in this role will take appropriate action in accordance with the Council’s Enforcement Policies, including preparing and serving statutory notices, fixed penalty notices and following through with prosecutions where required.
They will undertake proactive work to promote awareness and educate customers and stakeholders in relation to enviro-crime. This will include presentations, preparation and running of events and attendance at internal and external meetings.
The successful candidate will enjoy working outside and will be someone who can deal with members of the public in a helpful and diplomatic manner.
The candidate will need to have a flexible approach to working hours as evening and weekend work may sometimes be necessary. Given suitable experience and training, they will have the opportunity to participate in the standby out of hours service for which an additional allowance is paid. A full UK driving licence is required and although work vans are often available, they should have access to a car for work purposes.
The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).

Salary range
