We’re looking for an Environmental Health Technical Officer to join our friendly, supportive and forward-thinking team at Castle Point Borough Council.

About the role
You’ll work across a broad range of Environmental Health functions, with a focus on:
- Public Health, Statutory Nuisance and Environmental Protection
- Private Sector Housing
Your day-to-day work will be varied and hands-on, including:
- Investigating noise, smoke, light and other nuisance complaints
- Dealing with vermin, accumulations and other public health issues
- Inspecting private rented properties and HMOs and dealing with complaints
- Supporting residents and businesses to resolve issues
You’ll also have opportunities to gain experience in other areas such as food safety, health and safety, animal welfare and special treatment licensing / registrations.

Essential:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively
- A proactive and self-motivated approach
- Commitment to excellent customer service
- Capable of dealing with confrontational situations, calmly and confidently.
- Current full driving licence and access to a vehicle as there is a requirement to travel within the area.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in Environmental Health or a related field
- Knowledge of housing, nuisance or enforcement work
