
Environmental Protection Officer
Job Description
OverviewThe London Borough of Harrow is seeking a dedicated Environmental Protection Officer to join our team. This role involves carrying out enforcement functions to ensure the Council meets its statutory obligations in environmental protection. Responsibilities include inspection, enforcement, education, and advice. As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will operate in a customer-facing, front-line environment, representing Harrow Council in often challenging circumstances. You will spend 25% to 40% of your time based in the office and 60% to 75% on site-based visits to premises within Harrow Council, equipped with the necessary tools. You will work as part of an enforcement team, adhering to statutory requirements and complying with relevant Council policies and procedures. Additionally, you will represent the Council as a duly authorised officer, educating and collaborating with internal and external organisations to enhance public safety and wellbeing.
Thw role will work across Environmental Heealth with a focus on reducing waste in the Private Rented Sector and air quality across the Borough.

About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Have a good knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Team.
- Full current driving licence
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a demanding and pressurised environment independently and as a team
- High standard of written and verbal presentation and communication skills
- Competent in the use of standard computer systems
- Aptitude for the technical and legal aspects of the discipline
- Inclusive team worker who can foster partnerships work Collaboratory across teams to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability to work outside normal working hours as may be necessary including response to emergency situation
- A clear understanding of the diverse nature of Harrow’s communities and the implications for Public Protection and Enforcement Service and the impact on Harrow residents and service users
- Ability to maintain confidentiality

Salary range
- £34,191 - £38,925 per year
