The ER Specialist plays an important role in this ambition. As a key member of the Employee Relations Centre of Expertise, you will support how we manage risk, handle complexity and build manager confidence across the organisation through high‑quality, consistent and pragmatic ER practice.
You do not need housing sector experience to succeed. What matters most is strong ER expertise, sound judgement and the ability to provide clear, confident advice across a broad range of people matters.
What the role is all about
As ER Specialist, you will provide expert advice and support on a wide range of employee relations matters, ensuring that cases are managed fairly, consistently and in line with employment law and organisational values.
Working closely with Senior HR Business Partners, HRBPs and Centres of Expertise, you will help strengthen organisational capability by supporting early, effective resolution of issues and contributing to a proactive, prevention‑focused ER approach.
How you'll make a difference
You will strengthen organisational performance and colleague experience by:
- Supporting managers to resolve issues early, constructively and with confidence, reducing escalation into formal processes
- Ensuring fair, consistent and high‑quality handling of complex and sensitive ER cases
- Providing trusted, pragmatic advice to HR colleagues and leaders on people risk and decision‑making
- Using ER insight and data to identify trends, hotspots and opportunities for improvement
- Supporting the consistent application of ER policies and helping to build organisational capability
- Your impact will be seen through improved consistency, stronger manager capability and a more proactive approach to employee relations across the organisation.
How you'll do it
- Lead on a broad range of ER casework including disciplinary, grievance, capability, sickness absence and other complex matters
- Provide clear, balanced and pragmatic advice to managers and HR colleagues, supporting consistent and confident decision‑making
- Coach and support managers to build their confidence and capability in managing people issues
- Analyse case trends and contribute to ER insight, supporting targeted interventions and prevention activity
- Contribute to the development and communication of ER policies and guidance
- Work collaboratively across HR to ensure ER insight supports wider workforce and culture priorities
- Maintain high‑quality case documentation, ensuring robust governance and data accuracy
- Support engagement with Trade Unions and contribute to constructive industrial relations
All about you
Essential
- Strong experience managing a broad range of ER casework, including complex and sensitive issues
- Good knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application
- Ability to build credible relationships and provide confident, pragmatic advice and challenge
- Strong judgement, resilience and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
- Experience working in a unionised or representative environment
- Strong analytical and written skills, with the ability to produce clear information, insight and recommendations
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience
