This is a unique opportunity to lead and significantly scale NHB’s equity investment activity, shaping how long-term capital is deployed to unlock housing delivery and market participation across the country.
This role sits at the core of NHB’s investment offer. As Executive Director – Equity, the postholder will lead the design, delivery and oversight of NHB’s equity investment strategy, managing a portfolio expected to grow from over £600m to around £4bn. The role will ensure equity investments are deployed effectively to support housing and wider place making delivery, while delivering strong risk adjusted returns and long-term value.
Job description
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, NHB, the Executive Director will lead an ambitious and highly skilled Equity investment function, with responsibility for origination, structuring, execution, portfolio management and exits across a diverse range of equity and joint venture structures. This includes oversight of NHB’s most strategically significant partnerships and operating platforms.
The role will work closely with senior leaders across the CIO, Debt, Guarantees, Investment Operations and Homes England regional teams to ensure an integrated, whole-portfolio approach to capital deployment that maximises housing delivery, market impact and financial sustainability.
This will involve providing early strategic input on investment propositions, shaping equity structures and partnerships, advising on risk appetite and return expectations, and ensuring equity is used strategically to unlock delivery and crowd in private capital.
Operating nationally, the postholder will play a critical role in investment committee governance, ministerial engagement and cross-government reporting. The role also requires strong market presence, acting as a visible and credible leader with developers, investors, operating partners and advisers.
As a role model for NHB’s culture and ways of working the postholder will provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team, embedding commercial excellence, strong credit discipline and deep market engagement.
Person specification
The Executive Director – Equity, requires a senior leader with deep real estate and equity investment expertise, strong strategic judgement and the ability to operate with credibility at the highest levels across Government and financial markets.
We are seeking a leader with a strong background in real estate equity, joint ventures and platform investing, and a proven ability to originate and manage complex investment portfolios. The successful candidate will bring the following experience and attributes:
