This is advert is for tactical intelligence analyst roles.

Being an 'Intelligence Analyst' in the NCA provides you with opportunities like no other. Whatever your background, as an experienced intelligence analyst, your skillset will be welcome to support the NCA’s unique mission. There are opportunities to work in locations all over the UK in varied roles. You will be at the forefront driving decision making, identifying enablers and actors of Serious and Organised Crime, delivering investigative support against the highest risk organised crime groups affecting the UK, utilising innovative methods and finding new targets to amplify impact against some of the greatest problems affecting UK law enforcement.


Please Note: Security Vetting requirements - To be considered, you will need to successfully complete SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role and for some roles achieve DV clearance within the first 12 months in post. Some applicants may also be required to achieve DV STRAP, depending upon the team they are allocated to. Applicants must be willing to undergo DV clearance and STRAP induction and be full UK Nationals. Dual Nationals, of whom one component is British, may be considered on a case by case basis. Any candidate who does not achieve DV or DV STRAP in post will be found a suitable alternative role at the same grade.

For some roles DV may be required on entry.

Job description

As an experienced Intelligence Analyst, you will access a range of overt and covert capabilities to inform this work, working with government, law enforcement, UK Intelligence Community and private third sector to support tactical objectives.

You will be regularly working with large, multiple data sources to interpret and inform on threats, identifying new lines of enquiry and disruption opportunities, presenting data visually in a way that is easy to comprehend. The post holder will provide accurate, clear and quality analytical products that add value to proactively inform the prioritisation of Serious Organised Crime nominals and groups, inform threat areas' understanding and decision-making processes at the highest levels of law enforcement.

This role will see the post holder working closely with the respective Intelligence, Investigation and Threat area officers; they will regularly brief on their analytical findings and provide direction and recommendations; including evidential material for judicial outcomes.

The post holder will be supported through a dedicated analytical line management structure to provide analytical feedback and guidance to enhance their skills, with access to wider team support through forums and continuous professional development events.

National Tactical Analysis Unit

Intelligence Analysis forms a key component of the Intelligence Directorate. National Tactical Analysis Unit (NTAU) is part of both National Intelligence Hub – covering multi threat criminally – and also part of OIC Intelligence & Analysis. This has enabled closer working with Intelligence and Investigations, whilst still retaining close links to the data and technical professionals. The NTAU are responsible for delivering high-impact tactical analysis across multi serious and organised crime threats. Operating at the centre of the Intelligence Directorate, the team provides flexible and threat agnostic analytical capability that can be dynamically aligned to operation demand. The team is responsible developing and leading on the tactical analysis across operational commands in support of multi threat delivery; working closely with RITs, NTCs, investigations and external partners.

The roles will encompass all tactical aspects of intelligence analysis, proactive threat focused analysis working alongside the National Targeting Centre (NTC) as well as the operational analysis to support Regional Intelligence Teams (RITs) and our Investigations colleagues. You will be working to increase the Agency's impact against SOC through exploiting all source data and intelligence leading to improved targeting activity and understanding across priority threats. Additionally, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality analysis to support intelligence development and tasked investigations supporting the IOLs and SIOs by informing, guiding and directing resources to reduce serious organised crime impacting on the UK.

Intelligence Analysts work across all tiers of security classification, working in collaboration with our intelligence officer colleagues to identify the highest threat risk and harm offenders and networks and driving activity alongside investigative teams to derive maximum disruptive opportunities. Intelligence Analysts will use a range of analytical techniques including innovative use of extensive data sets, and technology, to identify maximum disruption opportunities making the complex simple producing clear and concise findings. IPP accredited (or equivalent) Analysts are required to provide high quality analysis to support intelligence development and tasked investigations to judicial outcomes; informing, guiding and directing resources to reduce serious organised crime impacting on the UK.

NTAU NIH Multi Threat

NTAU NIH Multi Threat teams are an embedded function with the National Intelligence Hub, responsible for delivering high-impact tactical analysis across multi serious and organised crime threats, operating at the centre of the Intelligence Directorate, the team provides flexible and threat agnostic analytical capability that can be dynamically aligned to operation demand. The team is responsible developing and leading on the tactical analysis across operational commands in support of multi threat delivery; working closely with RITs, NTCs, investigations and external partners.

NTAU NIH Multi Threat also hold responsibility for the agencies ANPR function led by a G3 ANPR Manager as well as a G3 Analyst Manager post with Professionalisation as lead area.

NTAU OIC

NTAU OIC teams are responsible for the analytical strategies, operational support and thematic understanding to support and inform the NCA’s Lines of Efforts (LoEs) in this priority threat area.


Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate and assess intelligence - Evaluate and assess intelligence, data and information gathered from multiple sources, understanding the availability and suitability of each source.

Conduct analysis - Carry out analysis in support of law enforcement objectives, using appropriate tools, techniques and systems.

Using evidence based practice to make recommendations - Identify intelligence gaps, patterns, relationships, trends, threats and opportunities and make inferences, deduce new meaning and develop recommendations.

Produce and present analytical outputs - Produce, present and disseminate appropriate and relevant analytical outputs e.g. products for evidential or intelligence purposes or to inform tactical, operational or strategic decision-making.

Deliver briefings and presentations - Deliver briefings and presentations, making recommendations to support the decision making and risk management process.

Appropriately handling and disseminating material securely - Ensure appropriate and secure handling and dissemination of material in accordance with relevant legislation, Government Security Classification, policies and procedures

Continued professional development - Maintain an awareness of developments and good practice in analysis.

Qualifications

To be eligible to apply all candidates must have:
Formal intelligence analysis training (e.g. National Intelligence Analysis Training (NIAT) / Government Intelligence Analyst Training (GIAT) / Defence Intelligence Analyst Module (DIAM) / New Analyst Programme (NAP) / Intelligence Analyst (level 4) Apprenticeship/ Forensic Analytics Intelligence Analyst course)
AND at least one of the below:

IPP Intelligence Analyst certification
Equivalent experience gained from performing Intelligence Analyst functions.
In the application process you will be required to provide a copy of the original certificate(s) where applicable.
Candidates who are applying without IPP accreditation will be required to obtain IPP whilst in role.
