About the role

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Officer (Mobile) to join our team based in Crawley.

Working exclusively across council premises within the town, you will play a key role in the planning, coordination and delivery of facilities-related projects and operational tasks as part of the wider facilities function. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys managing projects from planning through to implementation while also supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of council facilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organising and implementing a range of facilities works and improvement projects, ensuring tasks are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high professional standard. The role will involve coordinating contractors, managing workloads and supporting the smooth delivery of works across multiple sites.

In addition to project delivery, you will contribute to maintaining safe, secure and fully operational council facilities, delivering excellent service to internal stakeholders and site representatives.

We are looking for a proactive, organised and team-focused individual with a practical, problem-solving approach and experience delivering facilities or operational projects within a busy environment. The successful candidate will be committed to continuous professional development, knowledge-sharing and supporting colleagues within a collaborative facilities team.

The role will include:

  • planning, coordinating and implementing facilities-related projects and works
  • undertaking improvement tasks across council facilities
  • supporting project delivery from initial planning through to completion
  • carrying out health and safety checks and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards
  • liaising with contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • maintaining accurate records, documentation and reports relating to completed works
  • opening and closing facilities for contractors and supervising works where required

The successful candidate must be able to undertake the physical requirements of the role.

Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

Additional information

The role requires flexibility to work a rota that includes early and late shifts, with occasional weekend and bank holiday working. The standard working week averages 37 hours, and participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota is required.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong practical, hands-on experience along with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.

Applicants should be confident using computers, Microsoft Office applications and other digital systems relevant to the role.

A good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices is essential, with the ability to ensure compliance at all times while carrying out duties.

A full, current UK driving licence is essential for this role.

A uniform will be provided and must be worn whilst on duty.

The successful candidate will also be required to undertake a First Aid at Work qualification. A first aid allowance will be payable once assessed as competent and authorised to carry out first aid duties.
