About Us:
Bursting with culture, energy, and opportunity, the London Borough of Waltham Forest is a fantastic and exciting place to work.
We are a highly ambitious borough. Driven by culture and the innate creativity of our residents, we have developed new and innovative ways to build our communities. Our Council is relentlessly resident-focused, insight-led, digitally driven and commercially minded; a Council focused on meeting the needs of our existing and future residents.
London Borough of Waltham Forest is one of the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard employers. This accreditation is a proof of our commitment to creating a healthy, fair and inclusive workplace. This includes fair pay and conditions, workplace well-being, skills and progression and diversity and recruitment.
About the role:
As an FFT Therapist, the role involves delivering specialised Functional Family Therapy to children and families experiencing complex relational and behavioural challenges. Therapists work across developmental stages and diverse family structures, offering interventions within a multi-disciplinary framework. Central to the role is maintaining a caseload of families, where the therapist draws on advanced assessment skills and systemic formulation to guide evidence-based interventions. These interventions are delivered in accordance with the FFT Standard or FFT Child Welfare model, under the guidance of an FFT Supervisor and National Consultant, and always grounded in a strengths-based, collaborative methodology.
FFT Therapists are required to work closely with professionals from a range of sectors including Education, Social Care, Health, and the voluntary sector, sharing complex and often sensitive information in a way that supports the child and family’s needs. In doing so, therapists uphold responsibilities relating to safeguarding, criminal justice, and statutory guidance, and contribute written and verbal reports, both standard and non-standard, as needed. Participation in regular FFT audits and routine collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative outcome data is also essential to demonstrate clinical effectiveness and inform service development.
The role demands a commitment to equity and cultural competence, ensuring practice is respectful and attuned to the needs of families from varied racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds. FFT Therapists must advocate for the FFT model and the value of relational interventions within internal teams and across external networks, representing the service at multi-agency forums both locally and regionally. Additionally, the role includes a strong focus on clinical and social care governance, ensuring adherence to health and safety legislation, equal opportunities policies, and all relevant Council procedures
