An exciting opportunity has become available to join the North and Mid Family intervention team as a Family Practitioner. The Family Intervention Team are looking forward to becoming part of Devon’s developing Families First offer. There are two full time posts and one part time post available these will be based at Taw View Barnstaple.

Devon County Council's Family Intervention Team (FIT) is seeking dedicated and resilient practitioners to provide targeted early help support to families with complex needs across Devon. Working within a whole-family approach, you will deliver intensive interventions, helping families build on their strengths, reduce risks, and prevent the need for statutory services.

About the Role

You will:

  • Work directly with children, young people, and families experiencing multiple and complex challenges.
  • Provide practical, strengths-based interventions to support positive and sustainable change.
  • Act as a Lead Practitioner, coordinating support through Team Around the Family meetings and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Complete restorative family assessments, develop family led intervention plans, and review progress towards agreed outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with families to strengthen parenting capacity, advocate for children by ensuring their views inform decision-making, and provide targeted support during times of crisis to improve outcomes and promote stability.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues in social care, education, health, and community organisations to support effective multi-agency practice and improve outcomes for children and families.
  • Be part of an innovative service contributing to Devon's Early Help and our developing Families First offer.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and families.
  • Can build trusting relationships with families while maintaining professional challenge where needed.
  • Understands safeguarding and child welfare responsibilities.
  • Has excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Is resilient, adaptable, and able to manage a varied caseload.
  • Holds a relevant Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a related field such as social care, education, youth work, or health.
  • Has a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (subject to Equality Act considerations).
