About the job
Salary: £33,143 – £36,363 a year pro rata plus £963 essential car user allowance (Subject to Criteria)
Hours per week: 37 hours and 30 hours a week
Contract type: Permanent
We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Family Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in making a real difference to the lives of children and their families. Whether it’s working directly with parents to build confidence or helping children access the services they need, your work will be meaningful and varied.
You’ll work closely with professionals from a range of agencies – from schools and social workers to health practitioners – ensuring a coordinated approach to family support. You’ll spend time getting to know the families you work with, understanding their strengths and challenges, and developing clear plans to support positive change.
Some aspects of the role may include child protection work, so you’ll need to be comfortable working with sensitivity, professionalism, and care. Flexibility is important – you’ll be expected to occasionally work evenings or weekends, and travel across the Borough is part of the job.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
About you
You’ve got hands-on experience working with children and families in a social care, education, or health care setting, and you're familiar with the challenges families face – especially in areas where poverty or abuse can impact wellbeing. You may already have some involvement in child protection work and are ready to build on that foundation.
You’re confident working in partnership with parents, carers, and young people. Listening, understanding, and engaging are your strengths. You know how to assess a situation, identify needs, and develop clear, focused support plans. You’re someone who thrives when trusted to take initiative and manage your own workload, but also values working as part of a wider team.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English

Application Process
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
