Finance Systems Administrator
Finance Systems Administrator (Career Grade G4-G6)
Launch your career in Finance Systems
Are you a recent graduate or someone looking to build a career in finance, systems, data and technology?
We're looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and curious individual to join our Finance Systems Team at Wakefield Council. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working with finance systems used across the organisation, supporting colleagues, solving problems and helping improve the way we work.
This is a career graded role (G4-G6), offering a clear development pathway as your skills, knowledge and experience grow. Whether you're a graduate, early in your career, or have transferable skills from another role, we'll provide the support, training and development opportunities to help you succeed.
About the role
As a Finance Systems Administrator, you'll play an important role in supporting the Council's financial systems and the colleagues who use them every day.
You'll help ensure our systems run smoothly, provide support to users across the organisation, maintain system security and data quality, and contribute to projects that improve our financial processes.
No two days are the same. One day you may be helping a colleague resolve a system issue, the next you could be analysing data, testing new functionality, supporting a system upgrade or improving a business process.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving, learning new systems, working with people and using data to support decision-making.
What you'll be doing
- Providing first-line support to colleagues and external users, helping them resolve finance system queries and issues.
- Managing user accounts, access permissions and system security.
- Supporting colleagues to make the best use of finance systems and their functionality.
- Maintaining accurate and reliable financial data.
- Monitoring team inboxes and responding to enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Supporting monthly financial period-end and start-up activities.
- Assisting with system testing, upgrades and continuous improvement projects.
- Producing and analysing management information and reports.
- Maintaining and reviewing standard operating procedures and guidance.
- Working with a range of teams across the Council to improve processes and user experience.
What we're looking for
We're interested in your potential as much as your experience.
You'll be someone who:
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in producing accurate work.
- Enjoys solving problems and finding practical solutions.
- Has good communication and customer service skills.
- Is confident using technology and learning new systems.
- Can prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines.
- Works well with others and enjoys being part of a team.
- Has good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Is keen to learn, develop and grow within the role.
We'd also welcome experience or knowledge of:
- Finance or financial processes.
- Finance systems or business systems.
- Data analysis, reporting or data manipulation.
- Supporting customers or system users.
- Process improvement and administration.
If you're enthusiastic about developing a career in finance systems and can demonstrate transferable skills, we'd encourage you to apply.
