Grounds and Streets Officer

Directorate: Regeneration & Environment

Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council as a newly created Grounds and Streets Officer within Environmental Services. This role will work directly within the Grounds and Streets Maintenance Service and report to the Head of Environmental Services.

As part of a new approach to service delivery, performance management and continuous improvement, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping shape the future of grounds maintenance, street cleansing and environmental improvement services across the borough.

This is an opportunity to influence service development, deliver projects, analyse performance information, work with elected members and communities, and help drive innovation and environmental improvement across Rotherham.

What You Will Do

• Coordinate operational delivery across grounds maintenance, street cleansing and environmental improvement services.
• Support service planning, resource allocation and performance monitoring.
• Analyse operational data, identify hotspots and develop service improvement recommendations.
• Lead and support environmental improvement, biodiversity and innovation projects.
• Prepare reports, briefings and presentations for senior managers and elected members.
• Manage customer enquiries, complaints and member casework.
• Work closely with operational managers, contractors, partners and stakeholders.
• Support budget monitoring, efficiency reviews and financial management activities.
• Lead staff engagement sessions, meetings, inductions and training activities.
• Help develop modern, efficient and high-performing environmental services.

About You

We are looking for motivated, ambitious and solutions-focused individual who is passionate about public services and environmental improvement. You will be able to demonstrate experience of coordinating operational services, delivering projects, analysing data and performance information, and building strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

• Experience within grounds maintenance, street cleansing, environmental services or a similar operational environment.
• Strong project management, planning and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
• Experience of analysing data and using information to improve services.
• The ability to work collaboratively with operational staff, managers, partners and elected members.
• A proactive and innovative approach to problem solving.
• Awareness of working within a political and public service environment.
• Evidence of qualifications or equivalent experience appropriate to a Band J Principal Practitioner role.
