An average of 37 hours per week worked as annualised hours, permanent

April 1 – October 31- 5 days, 7.30am – 4.15pm

1 November – 31 March – 4 days – 7.30am – 3.45pm

Two roles – one is subject to an Enhanced DBS check due to playground inspection duties

We are now recruiting for two Grounds Maintenance Operatives to make a real difference to the environment in which Newark and Sherwood residents live, maintaining open green spaces.

We are now looking to recruit enthusiastic, hard-working people to join our Street Scene Team as Grounds Maintenance Operatives. In this role, you will be working with an experienced team who really care about the role they play in making Newark and Sherwood Cleaner, Safer and Greener.

You must be prepared to work in all weather conditions, to accept varied duties, to be flexible in your approach to work and have the ability to adapt to changes to your workload.

You will join a team dedicated to maintaining the District Council’s open spaces, including parks, play areas, playing fields and amenity areas, to a high standard. You will have grounds maintenance skills and powered tool and plant operation experience for example: strimming, ride on mowers and pedestrian mowers.

Candidates must also possess a full manual driving licence as the roles will drive Council vehicles across the district.

This is a full-time role working an average of 37 hours per week over the year. Your actual hours will, however, vary depending on the time of year. You may be required to work some weekends as directed by the supervisor/line manager when there is a business need. For example (but not limited to), if there is an event in the district or to cover unplanned absence.

  • Hedge and shrub cutting

  • Some knowledge of horticulture
  • Tree care/ and planting
  • Sports pitch maintenance
  • Play park works
  • Spraying
  • Driving around the district
