Are you ready to help shape the future of biodiversity in Arun? The Climate Change and Sustainability Team is launching an exciting new initiative, and we’re looking for a passionate, forward-thinking Habitat Banking Project Officer to lead the way.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help the Council unlock the potential of its greenspace land through Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). Creating thriving habitats while generating sustainable income on council owned land. You’ll be at the forefront of a movement that blends environmental innovation with strategic land management.
Please note that this is a two year fixed-term post.
Your mission:
- Design and deliver Arun District Council’s first Habitat Banking Strategy, in line with national and local policy.
- Establish and manage habitat banks on Council owned land, working collaboratively across departments including finance, legal, planning, estates and parks.
- Market and sell BNG credits, ensuring competitive pricing and a deep understanding of the habitat banking landscape and development needs across Arun.
- Drive income generation through the sale of these offsite BNG credits to developers and other interested stakeholders.
- Champion engagement by raising awareness and building partnership internally and externally to support habitat banking.
- Explore wider ecosystem service opportunities, helping the Council lead on nature-based solutions for climate resilience and environmental enhancement.
This is a hybrid role, and due to the work being required there will be a minimum of two days per week in the Civic Centre in Littlehampton.

Salary range
