Job summary

The Band C1 Hd CIS is CO NWD’s subject matter expert for all CIS infrastructure and estate matters, including physical security, configuration management and installation standards in accordance with best practice and MOD policies and guidance.

The role involves providing practitioner’s input to stakeholders across all headquarters at Northwood and directing and supervising the CIS Change Team and CIS Estate Management Team. The role requires a close working relationship with military, civil service and contract staff to plan, enable and lead CIS change projects in support of the multiple headquarters exercising command and control over Joint UK military operations worldwide. While the primary focus will be on CIS-based projects, the successful candidate will also be expected to provide input to a wide variety of site infrastructure projects.

Job description

As part of this role your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring the performance of the site wiring maintainers through the Private Finance Initiative Contract arrangements, ensuring they deliver new and changes to infrastructure to optimise availability and sustainability of the operational output of the multiple headquarters across site.
  • Working in partnership with the Private Finance Initiative Contractor for maintenance of a secure configuration management database of all CIS hardware and infrastructure across site.
  • Holding multiple functional security roles giving you responsibility for maintaining the highest levels of cyber and physical security, and control of entry to multiple network equipment rooms and spaces.
  • Influencing customers, systems and service owners, and other delivery stakeholders.
  • Championing and enabling innovation in CIS infrastructure in partnership with the Private Finance Initiative Contractor.
  • Providing clear and concise leadership, mentorship and line management supervision to staff members in the CIS Change Team and CIS Estate Management Team.

Person specification

The successful candidate must perform in the position quickly and will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working in Defence CIS, or a good understanding of how Defence delivers CIS capability and governance.
  • An extensive background in CIS delivery from a practitioner’s perspective.
  • The ability to work in an ambiguous environment, problem solving and designing innovative but deliverable CIS solutions, often at pace and sometimes against competing priorities.
  • The ability to assess information rapidly, seek clarity or additional information where necessary and articulate needs or processes in a way that is understood by a broad and diverse community of interest.
  • UK vetting: Directed Vetting (DV); once in post candidates will require additional checks
