Make a Real Difference in Your Community

We are now recruiting for a dedicated and passionate Health Improvement Officer to join our dynamic Healthy Places Business Unit—and help shape a healthier future for Newark and Sherwood.

If you’re someone who thrives on making lasting, positive change, this role offers the chance to turn that passion into impact. You’ll work at the heart of our community, supporting the design and rollout of innovative health and wellbeing initiatives that empower residents to live healthier, happier lives.

Whether it’s collaborating with local organisations, bringing professionals together, or tailoring interventions to support people in underserved areas—you’ll be instrumental in driving meaningful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion the Wellbeing@Work scheme, driving its rollout across local businesses, schools, and colleges—making workplace wellbeing a district-wide priority
  • Lead and inspire a network of workplace health champions, developing tailored training to empower them within the Council and the wider business community
  • Spearhead health-forward initiatives, including the Healthier Options Takeaway, Breastfeeding Friendly Accreditation, and Smoke-Free campaigns—creating environments that support better choices
  • Spot the gaps—identify areas of under-provision and take action to ensure programmes reach communities most in need
  • Tackle health inequalities head-on, designing inclusive interventions that elevate wellbeing in areas of deprivation and ensure nobody is left behind

We’re looking for someone with energy, empathy, and the expertise to lead from the front. If you’ve got the communication skills, up-to-date knowledge of wellbeing strategies, and a commitment to inclusive health for all, we want to hear from you.

Ready to lead the change?

We’re an ambitious, forward-thinking Council with strong values and a culture of doing our absolute best to serve our customers. We are proud of our organisational culture and receive positive feedback from our employees. We have a programme of internal activity to ensure that the voices of our employees are always heard and that they are kept informed on all Council activity and events. From roadshows to an annual award ceremony, from reviewing working arrangements to our Hug in a Mug initiative, it is incredibly important our employees are shown how valued they are and that they remain the beating heart of our workplace.

We offer:

  • Enrolment in the career average local government pension scheme.
  • Flexi scheme.
  • Hybrid working.
  • A generous annual leave entitlement that increases with service.
  • Family-friendly benefits.
  • One days’ paid volunteering leave.
  • Lifestyle benefits platform.
  • Funded health cash plan.
  • Free car parking*
  • £10 a month gym membership at one of our four gyms in the district.

You will be working with a professional, committed and experienced team who are passionate about supporting us to deliver the objectives as outlined in our Community Plan.
