HERO Service Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Salary: Grade D (£35,162 - £38,009)

24-month fixed term contract

Our HERO Service focuses on our customers and looks to assist residents impacted by the cost-of-living crisis to help improve their quality of life.

You’ll deliver a high quality, proactive tenancy sustainment service that helps vulnerable or at risk tenants sustain their tenancy, improve wellbeing, and navigate financial, social, and practical challenges. The role focuses on early intervention, income maximisation, and holistic support to prevent tenancy breakdown and homelessness.

You’ll work with tenants and private landlords giving general advice and support around the Renters Rights Act 2025 to prevent evictions and resolve tenancy issues.

.

You’ll work in the heart of our community by providing face to face person centred support at a range of Sevenoaks District Council Landlord Forums and community-based outreach locations where you’ll be working with tenants and landlords to address issues such as rent arrears, anti social behaviour, welfare benefits, and wider support needs.

You will deliver intervention and preventative initiatives to maximise opportunities for the customer by delivering sustainable outcomes for those most in need, promoting alternative options to serving notice by exploring tenancy sustainment options.

In turn, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills by participating in Corporate working groups to develop coordinated partnerships with internal and external partners.

If you have experience in providing advice and support and dealing with vulnerable customers, you’ll know it takes effective communication and empathy as well as the ability to work to deadlines and in difficult situations.

This role will be based at our Council Offices, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks Kent TN13 1HG. We currently operate a hybrid working model for the majority of our roles where your working time will be divided between the office (2-3 days) and home working (2-3 days).

What’s in it for you?

You’ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team tackling real issues in the private rented sector. This is a varied and rewarding role where your work directly contributes to safer housing and stronger communities.

Other benefits include:

• Enhanced annual leave of 28 days (excluding bank holidays)

• Additional leave after 5 years of service

• Extra Christmas closure day

• Hybrid working

• Generous Local Government Pension Scheme

• Opportunities to join in with social activities

• Free parking
