Highways Supervisor

About the Role:
We are looking for a Highways Supervisor to support the delivery of a wide range of highway maintenance and civil engineering projects across the district. You will work closely with engineers, contractors and stakeholders to ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards, helping to improve and maintain the highway network for our communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and inspect highway works carried out by external contractors.
- Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with specifications, standards and safety requirements.
- Support engineers in the delivery of highway maintenance and transport schemes.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspections and project documentation.
- Liaise with contractors, developers, residents and other stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Identify and report defects, variations and issues arising during construction works.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure adherence to relevant legislation and council procedures.
What will be expected from me?
- Supervise highway works and contractors to ensure quality, safety and value for money.
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, elected members and members of the public.
- Communicate effectively with a range of audiences and provide clear technical advice where required.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement.
- Work independently, make informed decisions and manage competing priorities.
- Maintain accurate records and monitor progress across multiple projects and sites.
Essential requirements:
- Extensive experience working with contractors on highway schemes.
- Level 3 qualification in an engineering-related discipline, or willingness to work towards one.
- Good understanding of relevant legislation, including health and safety requirements.
- Experience of working with a range of stakeholders and developing effective working relationships.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on-site and undertake regular site inspections.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality services and achieving positive outcomes.
