Your mission? To boost our capacity to protect, enhance, and enforce the conservation of our historic buildings and city centre heritage assets. From tackling ‘Stopping the Rot’ to enforcement issues to championing regeneration projects, you’ll be at the heart of shaping Derby’s built environment and cultural future.This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of Derby’s most ambitious city centre schemes. You'll support delivery of high-profile heritage projects, advise on buildings at risk, and work closely with the other Council Services, stakeholders and local partners to bring positive, lasting change to our city’s historic core. The OpportunityIn the role of Historic Buildings Officer (Enforcement), here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:Lead investigations into unauthorised works on listed and heritage buildings, applying proportionate enforcement across Derby and encouraging re-use of hertage assets.Manage cases from start to finish, tackling breaches impacting the historic city centre.Support local businesses and communities in maintaining, restoring and reusing historic buildings, maximising funding and opportunities.Be a visible ambassador—promote the Council’s conservation work at meetings and public events.Work closely with Enforcement and Conservation teams to monitor and resolve heritage-related cases.Keep accurate records, embrace digital tools, and maintain compliance with data protection laws.About YouTo be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have...You’ll have hands-on experience in heritage conservation and enforcement, ideally in a local authority setting. With a substantial understanding of built heritage and planning legislation, you’ll confidently manage cases, write reports, and advise stakeholders. Strong communication, IT, and teamwork skills are a must, as is the ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.A relevant degree is essential, and membership of IHBC or similar is desirable. You’ll also bring a proactive mindset, a commitment to equality, and the flexibility to work across the city and occasionally outside standard hours.
