Contract type: Maternity Cover up to 1 year
This position is available as a secondment opportunity up to 1 year. Luton Council is seeking an enthusiastic HR Adviser to join our Schools and Traded Services team.
As an HR Adviser, you will work closely with the HR Team Manager and colleagues to deliver a high-quality traded HR support service to schools, academies, and trusts. With support, you will provide advice and support on a range of HR issues to schools, governing bodies, and employees, ensuring best practice and compliance with employment law and equality policies.
This is a development role, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in an HR advisory team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide HR advice on a range of employment matters, including contract terms and conditions
- Support schools, trusts, and governing bodies in line with HR policies, legal frameworks and best practice
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients, providing timely and accurate advice
- Undertake research into HR matters and assist with policy interpretation and development
- Compile accurate HR documentation and maintain HR systems
- Work collaboratively with the HR team and external partners
- Ensure all advice reflects equality and anti-discrimination principles

About you
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Experience in a HR or personnel environment
- Some knowledge of employment law and HR best practice (or willingness to develop)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
- Good organisational skills to manage your workload and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in using HR systems and MS Office applications
You’ll also need:
- Ability to attend meetings across the town and occasionally outside normal office hours
