Job summary

The Supreme Court (UKSC) is the United Kingdom’s highest court of appeal. It hears appeals on arguable points of law of general public importance, concentrating on cases of the greatest significance. The UKSC is the final court of appeal for all United Kingdom civil cases, and criminal cases from England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and (in certain cases) Scotland. The Court plays an important role in the development of UK law. The impact of UKSC decisions extends far beyond the parties involved in any given case, helping to shape our society. Its judgements directly affect everyday lives.

The UKSC is a small non-ministerial department. The vision of the Court is to be world leading, and the staff (known as the administration) support the Supreme Court Justices to deliver the highest quality judgements in a unique and high-profile location on Parliament Square, which is open to the public. Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the Court and across the information management-oriented teams to ensure that we have the most robust and operationally accessible information which aligns to our world leading vision.

The job will involve assisting teams across the Court on information assurance, and compliance, with a focus on SharePoint. Furthermore, as the Court considers carefully the use and implementation of AI tools, having the right information governance in place will be key to our success.

Reporting to the Court’s Records Management team and working alongside the IT and Digital Services team, this role will also be required to provide ad hoc support across Corporate Services as required.

Person specification

Key tasks / accountabilities / responsibilities:

Information Management

  • Contribute to the preparation and implementation of information management policies and good practice across the organisation.
  • Build good working relationships with owners of information assets across the Court providing guidance and support where necessary.
  • Assist with collation of information returns in a timely manner.
  • Support team members to maintain standard working instructions and corporate memory.

Data Governance

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring data governance structures throughout the data lifecycle, ensuring alignment with the Court’s policies and standards
  • Help to assess and maintain the quality of data to ensure it is accurate, consistent and suitable for business needs.
  • Contribute to the planning, preparation and cleansing of data, making sure data is fit for its intended purpose ahead of the adoption of any AI tools.
  • Encourage good data practices and help to strengthen data literacy skills within the Court.

Administrative Support

  • Ad hoc administrative support across Corporate Services. This may include supporting in the delivery of key corporate function processes and assisting in the development of systems and procedures to ensure efficiency.
  • Providing support to the Director of Corporate Services when required, which may include taking minutes or assisting with internal commissions and reporting.

Essential criteria:

  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Administrative experience including the handling of sensitive information
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and to establish good professional relationships with a range of stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Experience of effectively working with Microsoft Office 365, with a good understanding of Microsoft SharePoint.
