Job summary

Working Pattern

Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Flexible working with working patterns will be agreed by your Line Manager which may include some Saturday work. 37-hour week based on a 5-day working week & 7.4 hours day. You may be required to participate in an on-call rota. Occasional travel to other HSE offices and the 2nd data centre in Farnborough is also required.



Job description

You will support the management of the HSE’s hosting infrastructure, ensuring that the infrastructure (data centres, servers, storage arrays, backup appliances, load balancers, etc) remains available, performant to SLAs/OLAs and relevant to business requirements. You may have line management responsibility for one or more Hosting Team members.

You will monitor the hosting infrastructure, investigating incidents, resolving problems, and developing and applying fixes and changes. Your role will deliver upgrades to the infrastructure, implement new functionality and seek to continuously improve the infrastructure to support the organisation in better ways. You will ensure that the infrastructure remains secure, protecting HSE’s data and users from cyber-attack and unauthorised loss. You will engage with users, supporting their needs, and ensuring that a high-quality, customer-focused service is delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the leadership and management of the Hosting Team. This may include line management of one or more Hosting Team members.
  • Support the delivery of high standards of user and customer focus, ensuring that services are delivered to SLAs and to customer satisfaction and routinely communicate with customers to promote confidence that incidents and requests are being progressed
  • Support the delivery of event, incident, problem, capacity and change management by the Hosting Team
  • Support the implementation of changes to the Hosting infrastructure, complying with change management, engaging with, users and ensuring that changes are understood and appropriate
  • Maintain accurate configuration management information for the Hosting infrastructure
  • Support monitoring the security of the Hosting infrastructure, defending against cyber-attack, preventing unauthorised access, unauthorised data exchange, and data-loss


Person specification

Essential Skills & Criteria

  • Experience working in hosting teams
  • Experience delivering hosting services performant to SLAs and maintaining a strong customer focus
  • Experience configuring and managing an industry-recognised server virtualisation hypervisor
  • Experience configuring and managing physical compute and storage supporting an industry-recognised server virtualisation hypervisor
  • Experience configuring and managing certificates to support host and identity management
