Job summary

The Intelligence Division is responsible for the receipt, collation, and analysis of information, intelligence and referrals of criminal activity to the SFO. The Division builds and develops intelligence products that drives case work options and proactively engages with the wider Law Enforcement and intelligence communities in the sharing of intelligence.

As an Intelligence Officer you will work as part of a team collecting evaluating, analysing, assessing and disseminating information and criminal intelligence from a variety of sources. You may be tasked by investigative case teams in any of our core business domains or work on any number of strategic projects for the Executive Board.

As an Intelligence Officer you will be required to build and maintain relationships with people who can assist us by providing information of relevance to serious or complex fraud and bribery & corruption. All activities will be carried out within a defined legal and procedural framework.

Good communication skills and the ability to retain and record information accurately are essential, as you will be required to write reports as well as occasionally giving verbal briefings. An analytical mind-set is also essential in order to piece together separate pieces of information for the development of intelligence projects.

Job description

As an Intelligence Officer you will be responsible for:

  • Working as part of a small team to handle reports via SFO On-line reporting portal to accurately capture information and provide a professional first point of contact within the organisation.
  • Collating and validating information, evaluating the credibility of sources and the reliability and relevance of their information.
  • Building accurate and comprehensive intelligence assessments, for consideration by the Intelligence Manager (SIO), identifying potential suspects and criminality, in alignment with the Director’s Statement of Principle.
  • Developing strong working relationships with internal and external customers to understand their intelligence requirements.
  • Delivering intelligence products and briefings to other members of the Intelligence Division, operational case teams and the SFO senior leadership team.
  • Liaising and collaborating with bodies across the public and private sectors (including other government agencies and relevant Police Forces) in order to collect information which may further enhance the intelligence picture.

“Practical experience of undertaking indepth research or investigations, preferably in relation to criminal or corporate fraud investigations” is a lead criteria; this criteria will be assessed first and candidates who do not meet the required standard will not have the remainder of their application considered.
