  • Are you committed to ensuring children receive high‑quality, relationship‑based, trauma‑informed practice?

If so, we want to hear from you.

About Us

Birmingham Children’s Trust is the largest children’s services provider in the UK and Europe, supporting thousands of vulnerable children, young people, and families each year. Our overall assurance position is GOOD. Ofsted rated us ‘Good’ in 2023, and our 2024 focused visit confirmed continued improvement, recognising the strength of our leadership and the commitment of our workforce.

Our quality assurance systems are well‑established and increasingly integrated across the Trust. The Practice Hub delivers a rigorous programme of regular practice evaluations, Trust Leadership Team (TLT) audits, intelligence‑led thematic and diagnostic audits, and service level audits. These processes are valued by practitioners and managers and are strengthened by direct feedback from children, families, and partners, providing a comprehensive picture of practice and driving continuous improvement.

We are seeking six Interim/Agency Team Managers to join the Practice Hub and support our commitment to delivering excellent outcomes and consistent, high‑quality practice for children in our care. The role includes systematic auditing, conducting and moderating practice evaluations, supporting social workers with targeted casework improvement, undertaking bespoke evaluations, reporting findings to the QA team, and facilitating improvement activity aligned to our practice model.

About you

The successful candidates will be committed to:

  • Securing the best outcomes for Birmingham’s children and young people and will play a key role in strengthening practice and assurance across the children in care service.
  • Demonstrating a clear understanding of what good and outstanding practice looks like, demonstrate professional curiosity, and work confidently within a relationship‑based, trauma‑informed approach.
  • Ensure CIC practitioners meet the operational plan by fostering a positive culture, empowering staff, and maintaining high standards of practice.
  • Provide an effective child centred service, which complies with legal, regulatory and statutory guidance, and leads to improved outcomes for children.
  • Ensuring promotion and safeguarding of children and young people's welfare is the cornerstone of service delivery, taking responsibility for the implementation of legislation, policies and procedures within the team/centre/designated specialism.
  • Being responsible for overseeing the social work practices with practitioners through reflective discussions/supervision, regular evidence-based auditing and feedback thus setting standards of service.
  • Ensure social workers have the necessary tools, resources, and safe working conditions, assessing and addressing risks to minimize or prevent them.
  • Working with staff, ensuring that children, young people, carers and families receive first class specialist assessments and timely support to meet their needs.
  • Developing collaborative working relationships with relevant services, which contributes to effective partnership working and contributes to a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.

We welcome applications from managers with at least two years’ management experience and extensive auditing or practice improvement experience across children’s social care.
