Our Customer Compliance group helps to ensure HMRC collects the full and correct amount of money due from UK taxpayers, investigates offenses against the tax system and takes action to identify and mitigate potential threats.

Within our Customer Compliance Group, we are looking to fill key International Corporation Tax Specialist positions in our Large Business and Wealthy and Mid-sized business compliance teams.
Successful candidates could be posted to a team in either of these compliance directorates.

Job description
As an International Corporation Tax Specialist, you will:Work on and support others with end-to-end risk and enquiry work, playing a key role in strengthening HMRC's efforts to close the tax gap through delivering results in respect of Domestic and International Corporation Tax priority risk themes, and in respect of some of the UK's largest customers.
Carry out complex analysis using specialist knowledge and tools such as comparability studies, transfer pricing report analysis and international risk assessment to make, or support others to make fact-based decisions and/or evaluate compliance risk.
Be responsible for key elements of the enquiry process such as information requests and behavioural/penalty considerations, ensuring legislation is applied correctly and that decisions are compliant with our Litigation and Settlement strategy.
Engage with our customers professionally and confidently and work proactively with them to resolve concerns and compliance risk.
Build capability across our corporation tax community, acting as a key contact in the resolution of technical or process issues, delivering upskilling, fielding technical queries and being a key conduit for feedback around risk to wider compliance teams.
Work in partnership with your leadership team and in particular Front Line Manager, supporting in building a culture of professionalism, learning and continuous improvement to improve business outcomes, efficiency and productivity.
This is a technical role with no line management responsibilities. However, you may be asked to support team delivery by planning and managing workloads, and by providing feedback on the work of others to their line managers. This role may require travel, overnight stays and face to face visits to customer premises.
Person specification
We are looking for people with energy and enthusiasm, who also have proven experience in resolving tax disputes involving high-value international corporation tax risks.
You will work as part of a multi graded compliance team, where you may be required to manage your own caseload of compliance cases whilst also providing technical support to colleagues when required.

You will be expected to:
- Apply technical knowledge and skills, using your expertise of Corporation Tax to identify and resolve complex compliance risk.
- Have proven experience of international corporation tax fact-finding analysis and methodology, and proven ability to choose the right approach in analysing complex data and information to arrive at evidenced based decisions.
- Work collaboratively and be influential in building and maintaining positive working relationships internally and externally.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Build capability of less experienced colleagues within our Corporation Tax teams, sharing knowledge and providing clear and sound advice to drive up case progress and results delivery.
- Mentor, coach and directly support caseworker colleagues on technical Corporation Tax matters and enquiry procedures.
- Keep up to date with developments and changes in legislation, guidance and business procedures.
- Uphold our Compliance Professional Standards, being proactive and innovative in doing so to assure fairness for our customers and provide them a positive experience.
- Keep complete, accurate and timely audit trails within the appropriate case management system to support the case advice you provide and decisions you’ve made.
- Respond to and be flexible and adaptable to changes in priorities.
- Engage people at all levels to foster an inclusive working environment that is supportive and productive

Essential Criteria
- Recent demonstrable experience of working in a Corporation Tax compliance environment on international tax issues (e.g. HMRC compliance officer; An accountancy or other tax advisory practice; In Industry in an in-house tax team)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to build relationships
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changes in priority .

Ideally you should hold one of the following qualifications, however demonstrable experience will be considered:
Successfully completed one of the following HO Routeways e.g. CCFL in CT, IT/CT BDDP, AIC, ITC, ITS1, FT1
